Overview
Our client, an international insurer with over $11 billion gross premium written worldwide, is seeking an Executive Underwriter for its Marine unit. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned underwriter with a proven ability to generate a profitable book of Inland and Ocean Marine business in the Canadian market.
Role:
- Underwrite new and renewal Inland and Ocean Marine business, meeting both growth and profitability targets, all in accordance with underwriting guidelines and within stated underwriting authority
- Negotiate price, terms, and conditions
- Take ownership of key accounts
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with producers and clients in partnership with the executive team
- Coach and mentor underwriters
- Work effectively within the company’s global management matrix
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the company’s underwriting strategy
- Underwrite profitable business
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders
- Ensure accurate policy documentation
- Proactively support the acquisition of new business and the retention of existing business
- Support the company’s key business initiatives
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- University degree – preferably in Economics, Finance, or other business studiess
- Chartered Insurance Professional designation (either CIP or FCIP)
- Minimum of ten years’ experience underwriting Ocean Cargo, Motor Truck Cargo and related products to the Transportation, Logistics and Cargo segments of the Canadian property and casualty insurance marketplace
- In depth understanding of regional insurance markets and the competitive landscape
- Well-established, strong relationships with large national and regional brokerages
- Advanced communication and presentation skills
